Question: How are Infinity Car Audio Systems?

Answer #1:

well, infinity has great products. it just depends on which products you get. and to cut the cost, install it yourself. there are many videos on youtube that will tell you exactly how to do it. and the amp is fine but if its less than 750 watts, its pointless to even look at.

Answer #2:

Infinity makes good products. At some point, you may also want to consider replacing the stock speakers. Infinity, Alpine, Boston Acoustics, Rockford-Fosgate, and Kicker are good choices.

For what's included in the package, it appears to be an excellent deal. You do not specify the brand of the "basic head unit", but anything other than Boss, Sony, Dual, or perhaps Clarion is probably OK. Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, and Pioneer are great.

The amp is necessary for the sub. The head unit will provide adequate power for your normal speakers, but not enough for the sub. Cost of the wiring appears to be a little high. An 8 gauge wiring kit is all you appear to need and they are available for around $30. $60 for installation is definitely a good price, and if you are not familar with car audio wiring, it's probably well worth it.

And yes, you will be glad you got a new head unit. In addition to providing more power for your normal speakers, it will provide the appropriate preamp outputs and remote turn on lead for the amp. Stock radios don't include preamp outputs making it necessary to install a line output converter, and your price for the basic head unit isn't that much more than a good line output converter.
