Question #1:
Could someone please explain the tortured logic which allows some of you to equate Islamic terrorism...?
...with Christian fundamentalism?Personally, I'm a Catholic. There are any number of issues, both theological and political, about which I disagree with fundamentalists and evangelicals. That being said, attempting to draw false moral equivalence between what they say and do and what Islamic terrorists say and do is beyond disingenuous.
Writing letters to the editor to express one's displeasure over "The Last Temptation of Christ" is NOT the same thing as rioting in the streets and burning down embassies over a cartoon. Attempting to get Howard Stern off terrestrial radio because of his language is NOT the same thing as slaughtering the infidel.
A few preemptive points to save time in responding to the apologists:
Save your breath about the Crusades or the Inquisition. Show me a 1000 year old Moslem and I'll buy him a beer.
Timothy McVeigh was a self-professed agnostic whose act had nothing whatsoever to do with religion, but was rather due to his hatred of the federal government.
The Troubles in the north of Ireland are nationalistic, not religious. Nobody is fighting about whether or not transubstantiation is a valid doctrine. The father of Irish republicanism was a Protestant: Theobald Wolfe Tone.
There have been precisely EIGHT deaths attributed to anti-abortion violence. That's eight. Not 80, not 800, not 8000. Eight. While that's still eight too many, it pales into insignificance when viewed alongside the literally tens of thousands of deaths attributable to islamic terrorism. Further, Christians came out of the woodwork to denounce these acts. Where is the analogous denunciation from Moslems over terrorism committed in the name of their faith?
Lastly, you don't need to "correct" me. "Moslem" and "Muslim" are both correct. They are both transliterations of a word taken from a language which does not use the Latin alphabet.
studbolt: I didn't "exclude" anything. I simply pointed out the factual and logical errors in each and every one of the ridiculous arguments you guys usually make.
me: Your post is a prime example of the false moral equivalence I was talking about. Can you HONESTLY say you would be as concerned about sharing a flight with a fundamentalist Christian as with a fundamentalist Moslem?
goman: My apologies. You are correct. It was nine. Click Here
tjtb: The Crusades have nothing to do with anyone's life today. Why is this SO difficult for you guys to understand? It's like invoking slavery to explain poverty in the African-American community: utterly ridiculous and intellectually dishonet.
Question #2:
I AM TIRED OF THIS GUY!.........................?
ok, I just move in to this student house... and there's this guy who is hitting on me all the time. he says things like, when I am going to take him out, and that he would like to date me because Latin girls are good in bed, one time he just came into my room saying that he wanted to make me company. So I got really upset I kicked him out and started to ignore him. Now he is drinking my drinks from the freezer, so I told him not to drink them because they belong to me. Now every time he gonna eat something he comes to me asking if it is mine, just to piss me off. I dont talk to him anymore but he does not get it, just now he came over asking me to translate some papers for him, I said I was busy, maybe another time. I am sick and tired of him!! what to do? shall I translate those papers or tell him to ask to someone else and bugger off?Question #3:

Latin for 'so few' (opposite of 'tot')?
Is there a Latin word for 'so few' in this sense:There were so few that I laughed.
Question #14:
Is this Latin translation correct?
I used an online translator. I know that online translators are TERRIBLE so I added the endings to each noun, pronoun, and verb as my previous Latin instruction dictated. I haven't translated something into Latin in a while, though, so I might be wrong. If you are a Latin scholar, can you please tell me if my translation is correct?"Ere fluminis , vestrum ianuam patefaci. In vestrum eternam scalam reciperi."
I want it to say, "Lord of the river, open your door. Allow me onto your eternal staircase."
Or something of the sort. It's for a story I'm writing. And yes, it's supposed to sound cryptic to whoever would actually be able to translate it.
Thank you!!
"Lord of the river" is direct address.
"-us" and "-ius" become "-e" and "-i", right?
Question #15:

Question #18:

Can someone please tell me are there any good websites or books for beginners to learn Latin? It's quite important to me because I'm going to be a scientist.Question #19:
I need some help making up some acronyms?
It's for a web series I'm working on. I need 3 different acronyms that spell out "T.H.E.M".One of the acronyms has to be the name of a delivery or moving service, or some other service that uses delivery vans.
The second needs to be for a large cooperation. Possibly something involved with banking or stocks, or some sort of military contractor
The third is the name of a vast multinational super-conspiracy, that is not in any way related to 'existing' conspiracies such as the Illuminati and the Builderberg Group. I'd prefer that this acronym be in Latin, but that's not necessary.
Remember all the acronyms have to spell THEM.
Thanks
@MOHAMED@ Those are anograms, not acronyms.
Question #20:
Do you like these names?
Only ten names, but looks kind of long because of info you really don't need to read<3boys-
• Maxwell "Max" Robert
- Maxwell is an English name that means "From Maccus' Field". Max has been a favorite name of mine since I was seven years old, and Robert is just a really nice family name. Almost every male relative of mine has Robert in their name somehow.
• Jared Michael
- Jared means "Descendent" and is Hebrew, while Michael, also Hebrew, means "Who Is Like God?". I just thought Jared was really adorable, when Michael is my fathers middle name. I wanted at least one name that started with a J, and another after a character in a book I've read. This fits both!
• Alexander "Alex" James
- Alexander means "Defender Of The People" in Greek. I'm not exactly sure why I love this name so much. Alex is just so cute and isn't so childish that he can't grow into it. James is after a friend that I've been close to since I was in kindergarten and he was in 1st grade.
• Christian Andrew
- Christian is English and mean "Follower Of Christ". Again, the first name is just name that I've loved for a very, very long time. Andrew is my fathers first name.
• Derek Harvey
- Derek means "People Ruler" in English. Derek is just after a friend of mine that I was really close to a few years back, as well as after one of my favorite book characters. Harvey is my grandfathers middle name.
girls-
• Natalie Ann
- Natalie means "Born on Christmas Day" in French. This is after a character in one of my own short stories that just really meant a lot to me. I really have no other reasons(:
• Shiri Elizabeth
- Shiri is Hebrew and means "My Song". I chose this because the meaning and origin are beautiful but also because I absolutely idolized the actress Shiri Appleby when I was about seven to eight years old. Elizabeth is after the character in the show where I first began to idolize her(: lmao!
• Isobela "Isa/Bela" Kay
- Isobela (Isabella) is French and means "God Is My Oath". I think Isabella has gotten way too popular, and since I really loved that name anyway, I decided to switch it up a bit. Kay is my mothers middle name.
• Maria Ashley
- Maria means "Sea of Bitterness" and is Latin. This is after my great grandmother Maria, my great grandmother Myrtle, my grandmother Mary Ellen (who I'm named after) and my other grandmother, Mary Sue, aswell as after me, Marissa "Sissa" Ellen.
• Keara Michele
- Keara means "Dark" in Irish, and I chose this because of my Irish origins.
The boy names usually stay the same for awhile, when the girl one change regularly(: I'm not too sure about the last two middle names, but the rest I'm pretty sure about<3
Aoife- You may be right, but I seriously doubt it, because every time I've tried looking it up this is what I've gotten. The meaning honestly doesn't mean that much to me, so that doesn't change anything. Is Aoife an Irish name, or did you just feel like making that up? Because that's what it sounds like.
Thanks for NOT answering the question. At all (: Appreciated.
