well , i didn't say it is only a genre alternative music can be post punk no wave pop post rock power pop punk/funk space rock slowcore riot grrrl showgaze baffy dream-pop freak and anti-folk so learn what alternative music means and not be mean without reason .... i said just similar artists !

Does anyone know the name of this band?

I believe it came out sometime in either 2005 or 2006. It is an alternative rock song...and in the music video there's like a beach or island...yeah, not much I know. Any ideas?

Can I get into college? No extra curriculars, subpar grades?

As a senior, the application process has already been initiated but I am lost and don't know where to start. Quite frankly I don't feel ready for college. I am still 16 and most of my peers are beginning their Junior years.

Throughout high school I have maintained decent academics but external pressures have kept me from being involved in the community. Not to sound like a sob story, but I had to deal with alot of crap. My parents divorced in 9th grade; and as a result I was transplanted half way across the country to Texas. With no friends for the majority of my freshman year I kept mostly to my self. As the year progressed I became good friends with two people who would later change for the worst. During sophomore year my two best friends turned to drugs and alcohol and I was caught in the middle of it. Before you judge me, I never smoked or did any drug, but I was involved heavily with people that did. My best friend was busted for selling extascy and had to spend two years in an alternative school and the other just dropped of the face of the earth. I exerted my best effort to help them but nothing I did ended up working. Professional intervention was the only thing that could help. That aside, I also spent that year living under the wing of an abusive boyfriend who espoused my mom. Fast forward to junior year and I started to branch out and become more sociable. In October I was diagnosed with mono and spent 19 days out of school, jeopardizing my grades and was on the verge of repeating junior year due to attendance. Once I got better it was too late as clubs where established and I was extremely tired following school. Now that I am better, I intend to make the best of my senior year. I plan to join BPA and another volunteering club to help boost my extra curriculars for college, but I fear it is to late. Applications are already starting and I am in between a rock and a hard place.

If you were in my situation, what would you do? I can give you a list of colleges I want to apply to and my "stats" for analysis. Do I have any chance of attending these universities or is my future ruined?

Question #6:

Any artists/Groups similar to Pearl Jam?

Pearl Jam's album "Ten" has recently become one of my favorite alternative rock albums, and i was wondering if anyone knew of some individual artists or groups that sound similar to Pearl Jam. Links and names of songs would be greatly appreciated.

And does anyone know of a song that sounds similar to "Once", because i swear i have had that song on repeat for the last hour.

What genre of music will take over in the next five years?

Every five years or so, some genre sweeps the popular music. We've had brit pop, motown, psychedelic, hard rock, disco, new wave, glam metal, grunge, thrash, rap, bubblegum pop, street r&b, scene, and lately metalcore is becoming more popular. Sure, other genres are still popular, but these are ones that became very popular during their designated periods. So who do you think is going to rise above the rest in the next five or ten years?

My opinion would be a second wave of grunge. Probably a lot more mellow than the first wave, or any post grunge though. More indie like, but still with the grunge essence. I have a couple reasons for thinking this. First, a lot of older grunge bands are still kicking, or just reformed for tours and albums. Pearl Jam is still at it, Alice in Chains are reformed, Stone Temple Pilots are back together, Hole just put out some new material, Dave Grohl is still out there with his many projects, Mark Lanegan is still out there contributing to different bands, etc. Also, a lot of the newer bands forming have been grunge like. what genre is chase&status?? (read the more info please!)?

i always thought chase&status were drum&Bass but heartbeat is classed as dubstep. it sounds more like rock/alternative/DnB than dubstep. but its on my M.O.S: sound of dubstep album. i like the song tho :)

Country and rap seems to be the least popular genres of music, but I love both. My favorite rappers are Common, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Eminem, Immortal Technique, and Jay-Z. As for country, I like George Jones, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings, and Alison Krauss.

Also what are your favorite genres? Besides country and rap, I listen to electric blues, jazz, hard rock, R&B, soul, and alternative rock. What about you?

IMO:

50s: Elvis Presley (brought rock music to the mainstream)
60s: The Beatles (general awesomeness and their whole career showed how the 60s were changing)
70s: Led Zeppelin (one of the greatest bands of all time)
80s: Michael Jackson (the 80s really was Michael's true home)
90s: Nirvana (brought alternative rock to the mainstream)
00s: Eminem (although I don't really like him its undeniable that he has had a huge impact)

I have soooo much music and it's becoming hard to find some artists that are new to me. I listen to rock, alternative, punk, and metal. Every sub-genre and every era of music.
